As the weather warms up and the snow is finally melting, both the men’s and women’s golf teams at Taylor are gearing up for their spring seasons to get under way.
Under first-year head coach Austin Peters, the Trojans have improved to 13-11 with four games left. The Trojans are tied for sixth place with Indiana Wesleyan in the Crossroads League with a conference record of 6-8.
The time has come when the spotlight shines bright on the small college town of Upland, Indiana. It is the annual game where students dress up in elaborate costumes and camp out four nights in a row, hoping to score some sideline seats for the highly touted game.
Having to learn an offense can be challenging, which is why having a player under center who already knows the offense like the back of their hand is so important. The Trojan football team is lucky enough to have a returning field general in two-year starter, junior Damon Hockett.
Everyone loves an underdog story and Taylor’s men’s golf team has taken the underdog mentality and run with it. Despite starting the year unranked, they end the first half of their year receiving votes for the Top 25.
The football season is just over halfway through and the race for the MSFA Mideast crown is as close as it can get. There are two teams primed to make a run for the title and a share of the MSFA crown, with little competition behind them.
Soccer is the most popular sport in the entire world and it’s not close. With an estimated 3.5 billion fans worldwide, soccer securely has the top spot. One club on campus is growing that popularity even more. The TU Soccer Club.
For Taylor students, there are a multitude of professional, minor league and semi-pro teams in the surrounding area playing games year-round that students need to know about.
Taylor football is off to its best start since 1999.
