The men's and women's golf teams are finished with the regular season and now look to win the Crossroads League Championship.
The Ackerman-Allen Shootout was the last competition the Trojans competed in, although there was no team score. Last Friday and Saturday both teams competed in the Pilot Invitational, in which both ended up winning first place.
Sophomore Maddie Thomas and freshman Taylor French led the way on the women's side, each recording a score of 79 on Saturday. Thomas and French were the only two players to break 80, which is impressive, considering it was raining.
According to Thomas, even though the weather was a factor, the Trojans committed to not complain and keep their eyes set on the task at hand.
This trend started last year, when the Crossroads League Championship had rain as well, yet head coach Cameron Andry told his players they were not to complain and play their hardest.
On the men's side, junior Alec Dutkowski added another victory to his collegiate career, totaling seven now. Both the men's and women's teams were at the same location for the Pilot Invitational, so the weather was the exact same for the men. Yet, they kept their heads high.
"It's really easy to get caught up in the weather and the things you can't control," said senior Nick Waskom.
However, the men's side is committed to holding a similar attitude to the women's team: control what can be controlled. Attitude and performance can be controlled, which is what the men want to stay focused on.
As the teams both head into the postseason soon, Andry reflects on this year and the success and fun times it's brought.
"We didn't even really know what (the women's team) had coming into the year," Andry said.
The women's team is very young, considering many of their top players are freshmen and sophomores.
The men's side is very different, as juniors and seniors lead the way. Andry said it's been fun to have jokes with the upperclassmen and reflect on memories made with them over the years.
Andry said he feels confident heading into the postseason and likes where both of his teams are.
The men's team starts the Crossroads League Championship Monday, while the women's team starts the Crossroads League Championship on April 30.
