The Taylor Women's Soccer team fell 0-4 to Campbellsville University in the Trojans' home opener at Turner Stadium on Thursday.
The Trojans entered their 2015 campaign following an 8-7-4 overall record and a 4-4-1 standing in the Crossroads League. Taylor faced a tough opponent in Campbellsville on Thursday, who took control of the game midway through the first half.
"For about 20 to 25 minutes, we really controlled the game; then we gave up a goal," said Taylor head coach Scott Stan. "We found it hard to come back after that, but no matter if you are winning or losing, you have to realize that a soccer game is 90 minutes. And so you have to pace and play for that time frame."
Sophomores Nikki Zaino and Megan Kammer along with seniors Shelbi Lowe and Courtney Selle combined for eight shots on goal but none penetrated. The Trojans stepped up their defense in the second half, featuring four saves by junior goalkeeper Anna Miller. Moving forward, the Trojan women look to improve their approach and game pace.
"I think it's just a matter of maturing and learning how to play the soccer game, not the skills, but the tactical awareness . . . I think that will help them going forward," Stan said.
Taylor looks to bounce back against the University of Saint Francis at 12 p.m. this Saturday at Turner Stadium.
