Third-day Slump

The Taylor women's golf team ended its 2014-15 season with a fifth place finish at the Crossroads League Championship.

The Trojans' 18-hole team score of 357 solidified their fourth place finish after the first day, three strokes ahead of rival Indiana Wesleyan and seven strokes away from third place St. Francis. The second day of play was even more promising than the first as the Trojans shaved off eleven strokes for a final team score of 346. The second round also marked career-low scores for some of the Trojans, with an 84 from freshman Grace Elenbaas and an 86 from freshman Courtney Feagans.

The final round of play was a rough one for the Trojans, who posted a 18-hole team score of 359. Sophomore Brittany Pfaff carded her best round of the championship with a score of 85, and Feagans followed with an 88. The final scores for the Trojans came from Elenbaas with a 91 and senior Lauren Anderson with a 95. The round caused the Trojans to slip into fifth place behind Indiana Wesleyan, who posted a score of 341 in the final round of the conference championship.

"We were pretty disappointed with our last day performance," said head coach Julie Flores. "I think we were tired towards the end and it did not help Grace (Ellenbass) was feeling ill. Our goal was that fourth spot, which is usually held by Indiana Wesleyan."

Although the conference championship tournament ended with disappointment, coach Flores recognizes the bright future and the improvement from the beginning of the season.

"We had a much better season this year, especially in the conference tournament," Flores said. "Our overall team score was 1,172 last year in the tournament compared to 1,062 this year. I am very proud of our girls this year."
