Women's golf gets sixth

Kyle Keck | Echo

The Taylor women's golf team punched in its highest placement of the season at the Saint Francis Invitational on Saturday.

Taylor finished the match in sixth place out of 11 teams behind sophomore Brittany Pfaff's milestone performance. Pfaff penciled an 81 on her scorecard, putting her name atop the Taylor women's golf record book with the lowest round score in program history.

"I just had a good day chipping and was able to make many up and downs, and I think that was the difference," Pfaff said. "It wasn't about getting a school record, and I was hoping we could get another team record but we just missed it. It's really fun when the whole team does well and we all get personal bests in the same round."

The swinging sophomore has driven the team this season. Across a span of three matches, Pfaff has remained on the top of Taylor's leaderboard. As Pfaff's low scores progress, head coach Cam Andry is pleased to see where she is taking the team.

"Brittany has really worked hard to improve and she continues to get better," Andry said. "She just played good steady golf on Friday to break the school record. I'm excited for the future of our program with Brittany leading the way."

Taylor's team scores have been improving all season. Along with Pfaff's exceptional play, the handiwork of freshmen Grace Elenbaas and Courtney Feagans and sophomore Libby Hansen gave Taylor a boost in its last match.

"Our team scores overall are so much better than last year," Pfaff said. "That's the best feeling. We are starting to compete as a team, which is so much fun."

Taylor finished with its best team performance of the season at the Saint Francis Invitational, a direct result each teammate's personal improvements.

"Each player has really worked hard on their game this fall, so I think we're starting to see some of the dividends of that investment," Andry said. "We're still a very young team, with our top five consisting of two sophomores and two freshmen, so I think we'll continue to improve at a steady pace in the spring season as well."

The women's team will head to Mount Vernon, Ohio on Oct. 11, teeing up one more time at the Mount Vernon Nazarene Invitational.
