Roommate Conversations

By Lindsay Robinson, Erin Fuhr & Gracie Fairfax | Life & Times

Welcome Weekend is a chaotic mix of new faces, lots of information and stress. On top of this organized chaos, you will also meet your new roommate, who so far is just a nametag on the door. While roommate relationships are not always easy, sometimes all it takes to have a great year is asking the right questions. Here are a few to keep in mind.

How do you think we should use/arrange the room? What does your schedule look like? What do you like to do during your free time? What are your study habits? How can I help you this year?

These are not your typical getting-to-know your roommate questions, but maybe they're just the right way to break the ice.

Would you rather eat ten spiders or only wear the color green for the rest of your life? What's your love language? Handwritten letters, or pumpkin spice lattes? Call of Duty, or a new car? Would you rather have violent hiccups for the rest of your life or quack everytime you laugh? Would you be offended if I ran a background check on you?

Embrace your roommate's quirks and look forward to lots of great memories. Who knows, maybe one of these questions will lead to a lifelong friendship.
