Taylor musicians show off singing skills at NATS

By Alycia Timm | Echo

Three Taylor students brought their vocal talents to Ball State University on Saturday, Feb. 22. Senior Courtney Jameson and freshmen Meghan Gamble and David Park represented Taylor as they competed in the 2014 Great Lakes Region National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) student adjudications, a formal performance where the students perform for judges and receive advice and insight on their talents.

The event is one of the organization's most recognized activities and includes students from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, and Ontario, Canada. Students receive positive feedback from a panel of teachers. After competing with hundreds of students, Jameson, Gamble and Park each achieved recognitions for distinctions in voice.

"I'm honored to be able to represent Taylor at the regional competition," said Jameson, who took 2nd place in the fourth-year college women category. "It's a great feeling to be recognized for all the practicing and time it took to learn the music."

Meghan Gamble, who took 3rd place in the first-year women's category, also appreciated the experience.

"NATS is really the only competition we do outside of singing recitals, so it's fun for us to get off campus and share what we feel is one of God's gifts to us," Gamble said.

All three of the winners are voice majors or minors studying with Patricia Robertson and Conor Angell. They are qualified to apply for the national competition-scheduled to be held in July in Boston.
