The women's basketball team got its second straight win on Wednesday night by staving off a fierce comeback attempt by Bethel as they held on 60-54.
The Trojans (12-17, 7-10) had a comfortable lead that peaked at 17 (47-30) in the second half before Bethel came roaring back to within two at 49-47 just under five minutes to play. At that moment, senior Kelci Freds drained one of her six three-pointers of the evening to extend the lead and allow Taylor to hang on.
Freds went 6-for-8 from deep for a game-high 20 points while the team went 9-for-18 from distance overall. Freds has now scored 38 points in the last two contests (18 and 20) while going a combined 10-for-16 from the three-point line (62.5 percent).
Sophomore Monica Compton chipped in a quiet double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds while senior Kelsey Bryant registered a career-high 13 rebounds.
The women's club will be in action Saturday when they play host to Huntington at 1 p.m. for senior day.
