The Taylor women stopped a three-game skid in their victory over Marian with a final score of 66-62 last Saturday. The Trojans were powered by senior Kelsey Bryant's 26-point, 10-rebound double-double.
Taylor took a 20-17 lead off of a three-point play by Bryant, which they followed with an 11-2 run. Seniors Ashley Fouch, Kelci Freds and Shayna Wood finished off the run with big plays of their own, extending the lead to 28-19. The Trojans held on to the lead going into halftime with a 30-25 edge.
Marian came out in the second half fighting, tying the game at 39-39 before taking the lead. The Knights widened their lead to six before Taylor came back to reclaim a 62-61 lead off a pair of free throws by senior Becca Daniels.
Daniels knocked down a bucket in the paint and Freds drained two free throws to seal the win for the Trojans in the waning seconds of the game.
Taylor shot the ball well throughout the game, knocking down 46.8 percent of their shots and capitalizing on 80 percent of their free throws.
Bryant led all scorers, doubling her season average with 26 points, shooting 8-11 from the field, while going 8-9 from the free-throw line and leading the Trojans in rebounds with 10. Daniels finished the game with 13 points, four rebounds and a block. Wood added to the mix with eight points, four assists and three rebounds.
The Trojans improved to 9-15 with the win and 4-8 in the Conference, pushing them into a tie for 6th place.
The women's team played in the early game of last night's doubleheader at Mount Vernon Nazarene, losing 59-61 in a tight contest. Road games continue for Taylor Saturday against Spring Arbor with a 1 p.m. tip.
