Men's basketball upset by Goshen

Austin Kight | Echo

Taylor (10-17) displayed a disappointing offensive performance Saturday against Goshen College (2-14), landing only 36.6 percent of its shots from the floor, resulting in a 73-64 loss.

In the first half, the Maple Leafs jumped out to an early lead, going up by 13 points with 3:30 left to play. The Trojans responded with a 14-2 run, reducing their deficit to 35-34 at half.

The Trojans continued to build momentum in the second half, taking a five-point lead with just over 9 minutes left to play.

Moments later, Goshen tied the game at 56-56 when seniors Kyle Capps and Matt Glick hit back-to-back field goals that launched a 12-0 run for the Maple Leafs. That was enough to hold the Trojans off, as Goshen ran out the clock to their second win in the Crossroads League this season.

Behind the arc, only six of the Trojans' 29 shots found the net. It was one of their worst three-point shooting performances this season.

In Crossroads League play, Taylor has dropped 10 of their last 12 games, putting them eighth in the conference. With only the top eight teams guaranteed spots in the Crossroads League tournament, winning is crucial for the Trojans with two conference games left this season.

The Trojans went on to stun No. 15 Bethel College on Senior Night Tuesday evening. Read more about the big upset in this week's edition of The Echo or online, here, Friday morning.
