The Marion Philharmonic Orchestra will host their annual Valentine's Day Ball on Saturday, Feb. 15, in collaboration with the YMCA and Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra. The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra, directed by Jeff Anderson, will dedicate their performance to the Marion Philharmonic.
"It is a real privilege to have an orchestra in our small town. It's something we want to keep going," said Sheila Todd, executive director of the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra.
Every concert that the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra performs costs approximately twenty to thirty thousand dollars.
"It is important that people come out so that we can still have an orchestra season. This year, we are changing our performance up. It is sure to be a fun evening, and it really benefits the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra," Todd said.
The night starts at 7:30. There will be an emcee and three sets of music, with the night ending at 10:30. The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra will be playing lots of love songs, and the Marion Philharmonic will be bringing professional dance instructor Jamie Bragg from Signature Dance Studio in Marion to instruct on swing dancing and the cha-cha, according to Todd. Dessert catered by Paynes will also be available for purchase.
There are already tables full of Taylor students signed up for the event, Todd said. To reserve tickets, call 765-662-0012. Tickets are $20 for students and $30 for adults. There are discounted prices for groups of eight.
The Marion Philharmonic will also be performing at Taylor on Saturday, April 26 for Heritage Weekend. "Brahms to Broadway" will feature alumni Conor Angell and Steve Amerson, as well as the Taylor Chorale. Tickets are $10 for students and $20 for adults. Call 765-662-0012 to purchase them.
