IWU too much for Trojans

Steve Nafziger | Echo

Indiana Wesleyan proved to be too much for the Trojans on Tuesday night as the Wildcats held Taylor to their lowest point total of the season winning by a final score of 71-52. The game, in Lucky Arena, marked the 59th meeting between the two schools.

The Trojans' first bucket came five minutes and 41 seconds into the contest. Taylor was able to pull within three points in the first half but never gained the lead. Indiana Wesleyan managed to make four of six three pointers and shot almost 64 percent from the field in the second half. The Trojans shot just 37 percent over the course of the contest.

The Wildcats outrebounded Taylor 37-26 and assisted on 14 made field goals compared to the Trojans four.

Taylor could not find an answer for the Mahurin brothers as they tallied 39 of the Wildcats 71 total points and recorded almost one third of Indiana Wesleyan's rebounds.

Sophomore Kyle Stidom led the Trojans with 16 points while junior Jesse Coffey recorded 11, making the only three point shot for the team. Senior Josh Riikonen added eight points and four rebounds off the bench.

Taylor (8-10, 2-5) has dropped four of their last five contests and looks to turn things around Saturday against Goshen College (4-13, 1-4). The game will have a 3:00 p.m. tip in Odle Arena.
