Men's soccer gets first conference win

Adam Kelly | Echo

The Taylor men's soccer team battled with St. Francis Saturday, bringing home a much needed 3-1 victory.

The Trojans have been looking to pick up a win after dropping four in a row. Three of the four were golden goal losses in overtime. With the win against the Cougars on Saturday, the Trojans pick up their first conference win as they hope to turn the season around.

Taylor won the battle with eight shots to St. Francis' five. The Trojans were also more accurate as they tallied four shots on goal to the Cougars' two.

TU took the lead early with a goal by junior midfielder Tim Daniels seven minutes into the contest. The Cougars tied the score in the 31st minute and the halftime scored settled at 1-1.

The Trojans put the game away in the second half with goals by senior defenseman Kevin Miller in the 73rd minute off a corner kick and another by Daniels in the 86th minute.

It was an aggressive game, as usual in Crossroads League play, with the Trojans committing 17 fouls and the Cougars committing just 10.

The Trojans head to face Grace College in Winona Lake on Wednesday, October 9 at 4 pm.
