Airband only wants survivors

Hannah Haney | Echo

Ladies and gentleman, the theme for Airband 2013 is . . . Survivor.

"We'd like for that theme to be taken by the school, and I'd like different people who have different visions of it to run with their vision," said senior class president Jason Koh. "We would really like to try and have people who've envisioned their own survivor and run with that."

Is it based on the TV show? Robinson Crusoe? Perhaps a desert island?

"It could be based on all of those, it could be based on none of those. No one knows," Koh said. Part of the reason the theme of Survivor was chosen was because of its versatility.

Another part of the theme's appeal was the passion that it sparked in people. "During the summer we had everyone (in TSO) . . . come up with some themes and we took our top themes, we put them all on a board, and we just kinda voted on all of them," Koh said. "There were a lot of . . . really great ideas, but people's passions weren't showing about it . . . for some reason they just all loved Survivor," Koh said.

There are lots of reasons to be excited this year. Koh said that TSO is planning giveaways through Twitter and Facebook. "With regards to seating, 'cause I know that's a thing that everyone worries about in Airband . . . we're actually going to be reserving seats for people. More info will follow on how to get those seats, whether it be more expensive a ticket or a competition or something of that sort."

Airband will be full of excitement and surprises this year. One of the goals is to engage campus in the theme leading up to Airband and building on the excitement. Keep an eye on the TSO Facebook page for updates.

Airband auditions are Sept. 17 and 18 at 6 p.m in Rediger Chapel. Airband will take place on Sept. 27 at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. in Rediger.
