The Taylor men's golf team kicked off their spring break with a tournament at Old Hickory Country Club in Nashville, TN. With ten teams present, the men settled for fifth place after one day of competition, but clenched second place the next day after an excellent day of golfing. The two days combined to give them fourth overall in the tournament with a score of 306.
Sophomore Nate Scheibe earned himself a place on the all-tournament team with a score of 152 boosting him into second place overall.
"The guys executed the game plan and each guy played well. I'm pleased with today and we'll build on it," head coach Cam Andry said.
The women had a tournament schedule in Kentucky, but due to weather conditions, it was canceled.
The men and the women both packed up from their separate locations to head south to Florida for a week of training. Weather conditions allowed them to practice on a full golf course each day, instead of the indoor driving range they used in Muncie.
"This time on the course was very beneficial as it allowed us time to focus on detail and correct technique," said Head Women's Coach Julie Flores.
The men had their annual inter-squad match where they fight to win "The Purple Jacket." Sophomore Tucker Fahlen won the battle and claimed the jacket for 2013.
"Overall, spring break was an awesome time! It allowed us to not only work on our skills, but it brings the team closer together and allows us to bond in a different way," said senior Jimmy Fahlen.
