Men's basketball continues their run through the Crossroads League Tournament by defeating the Huntington Foresters this afternoon, 81-75.
Senior Casey Coons led all scorers with 25 points. Junior Ben Raichel added 21 and senior Nate Kasper had 16.
Taylor's sharp shooting gave them the boost to defeat the No. 8 seeded Foresters. Despite shooting a lower field goal percentage (53.2 percent) than their opponent (54.9 percent) Taylor still managed to shoot a higher three-point (55 percent) and free-throw percentage (90.9 percent).
The first half was the strongest for the Trojans as they outscored Huntington by nine. For most of the half the score remained tight but Taylor pushed ahead to take a small lead into halftime.
The second half proved to be much tougher for the Trojans as Huntington was able to outscore them by 3. Fortunately for the Trojans they were able to hold off the Foresters and hit key shots down the stretch to earn the victory.
Taylor finished the game with 23 rebounds and racked up 10 more assist (17) than their opponent.
The Trojans will fight for a spot in the NAIA national tournament on the road this Tuesday at 7 p.m. against the No. 3 seeded Bethel Pilots.
