The Taylor women's basketball team got back to their winning ways Wednesday night, beating Spring Arbor 77-53 and snapping a five game losing streak. The Trojans improved to 14-7 on the year and 3-6 in conference play.
Taylor managed to score early, but found themselves in a battle as Spring Arbor stayed on pace. With seven and a half minutes left in the first half the Trojans offense exploded on a 15-3 run to head to the locker room with a commanding 44-28 lead.
The offense continued to click in the second half as Taylor managed to extend their lead to as many as 31, and holding the Cougars to just 25 percent shooting in the second half of play.
The defense played a huge part not only in the second half, but also throughout the game as Taylor held Spring Arbor to 31 percent from the field. The Trojans also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 40 points on 27 Cougar turnovers.
Junior Kelsey Bryant and senior Erin Guarneri led a balanced Taylor offense, which shot 48 percent from the field, scoring 13 and 12 respectively. Junior Becca Daniels chipped in 8 while a trio of Trojans added 7.
The Trojan women will be back in action Saturday when the Trojans host Goshen in Crossroads League play. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
