Trojans sweep #13 Pilots

By Jeff Yoder

The Taylor women's basketball team won its second game of the season against No. 13 Bethel Saturday afternoon by a score of 68-65 in Mishawaka.

The Trojans knocked off the Pilots for the second time this year by stellar defense and rebounding as they out rebounded Bethel 44-26 and held the Pilots to just 28.6 percent on three-point shooting.

The Trojans announced their presence early in the second half as they jumped out to a 55-42 lead and had Bethel searching for answers. A 15-4 run by the Pilots lifted them back into the game as it would go down to the wire.

A 66-65 Trojan lead with time running out would cause Bethel to foul junior guard Kelci Freds. Freds buried both free throws to seal the deal 68-65.

The Trojans were led by Erika Redweik with 19 points and nine rebounds. Kelsey Bryant and Kelci Freds chipped in 11 apiece as senior leader Erin Guarneri filled up the stat sheet with ten points, five rebounds and five assists. Tess Rudolph was the fifth Trojan scorer in double digits with ten to go along with a career-high nine rebounds. Having won four in a row, the red-hot Trojans will be looking for another upset next Wednesday as they host No. 6 Saint Francis at 7:00 pm in Odle Arena.
