Smarter resolutions

By Angelina BurkholderNew-Years-Resolutions

As soon as the new year toast dies down and the kisses end, the resolutions begin. Those little promises hang around you, taunting you with the question of when you'll trip up and break them. So take the easy way out and give them up before the first 31 days of the new year are even over.

Living healthier If you've resolved to put away the potato chips and pick up the weights, think again. All those snacks sitting in the corner of your room are begging to be ingested. Do your snacks a favor and take them out on a date. Pile them nicely on the couch next to you, pop in a movie and chow down. See how fast you can devour those yummy treats. If you want a fancier date with them, plan a road trip to Odle. You resolved to start working out, so work out that jaw with some serious snacking. The couches in the KSAC lobby make for a nice seat while you laugh at people taking sweaty walks to the drinking fountain.

Friendlier living Maybe you resolved to put yourself out there more in the people world. You're lonely and you want more friends. Ever stop to think maybe your futon and bed are lonely too? Treat them to a nice long nap and build better relationships with them. They're always there for you, maybe it's time you start being there for them. When it comes to talking with floormates or napping, the choice is obvious.

Better academics Resolutions having to do with better academics definitely need some rethinking. Forget studying when so many fun activities are begging for your participation. Indulge them. Put a blanket over the books and discard the idea of studying. You can always blame the missing homework on dorm mice. There's no doubt those professors will believe you. There may not be many dogs around here, but that homework somehow still gets eaten.

Regardless of what resolutions you've set forth for yourself during 2013, re-evaluate them. Perhaps kicking them straight out the door for mindless bad habits isn't such a great idea, but make sure that the goals you do set are reasonable and achievable. That way, you'll have a better chance of feeling accomplished at the next New Year's Eve toast.
