Upland Tire open house

By Aubree DeVisser | Echo

Tires, mechanics, free food, drinks and giveaways. How are these related? This Saturday, Taylor students will host an event at Upland Tire for a management class project that includes all of these and more.

Junior Nolan Sponseller, a member of the group that put together this event and employee at Upland Tire, suggested hosting the event in the company's new facilities, according to sophomore Will Schaufelberger, another Taylor student involved in the project. Schaufelberger went on to explain the main goal of this experience is to celebrate Upland Tire by bringing awareness to their services and bridging the Taylor community to the Upland community.

"A big misconception of Upland Tire is that they just do tires. They're a full service auto mechanic shop," Sponseller said.

Students who do not know about Upland Tire may hesitate to go there for assistance with their cars, even though the shop is celebrating 20 years of service this year. The open house is an opportunity for Taylor students to come out and meet mechanics, go on tours of the shop, check out the new facilities and get free stuff. Who can say no to that?

Sponseller expressed his hope that this event will to make students feel more comfortable going to Upland Tire for assistance when they are away from home.

"This event is a good way for TU students to connect with the business and get to know who would potentially be helping them with their car troubles," Schaufelberger said. "That way, TU students would be a lot more comfortable taking their car issues to the shop."

Stop by Upland Tire from 1-4 tomorrow to meet with the owner and mechanics and help the students who planned the event support and celebrate this local business.
