Cueing the classics

Classic plays and fresh faces are part of the Taylor theatre department's upcoming season.

In addition to performances of "Waiting for Godot," "Romeo and Juliet" and "Godspell," the department welcomes the addition of new technical director Terrance Volden.

"I supervise all of the student staff that deals with the technical stuff (which includes lights and design)," Volden said. "I haven't been here long, but I love it so far, and I'm excited to be able work full time and have an office."

Volden is providing the set design for the first two plays of the season, "Waiting for Godot" and "But Not Destroyed."

"Waiting for Godot" is Samuel Beckett's absurdist work about two existentialists and will be put on by the English department and directed by English Professor Joe Ricke.

Proceeds from the play will benefit the Jason Francis Memorial Scholarship awarded to an incoming Taylor theatre major.

Volden's other production, "But Not Destroyed," will reenact the true story of a minister imprisoned for believing all men are created equal.

Tracy Manning, Taylor Theatre's Managing and Artistic Director, will direct the remaining productions of the season.

The schedule includes big-name production "Romeo and Juliet" and the super-musical "Godspell." A comedy, "The Curious Savage," will conclude the season.
